What is Yoga?
"The nature of human beings is to seek happiness and tranquillity and to gain an understanding of life and our purpose in it. Yoga is a discipline, a technique, a philosophy that provides teachings and guides seekers. Yoga is the art and science of self-care, personal development and self-realisation. It is not a religion but rather a practical method developed for the purpose of bringing human beings to the highest levels of physical fitness, mental clarity and spiritual awareness. Sri Dharma Mittra.
Hata Raja Yoga
Hata Yoga is the yoga of bodily mastery. Asana (poses) and Pranayama (breath control and extension) are the essence of this form of Yoga. Raja Yoga means Royal Union, the way of union through mental mastery, referred to as the crown of Hata Yoga. The practices of Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana (meditation) are the center of this form of Yoga. Hata Raja Yoga is a complete practice that leads to observing the inner self and seeking personal fulfillment.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa Flow is based on the conscious and progressive flow of one Asana (poses) to the other, synchronizing the movements with the Ujjayi breath, keeping the postures for some breaths without interrupting the rhythm of the sequence. This practice does not have a fixed scheme or a reference Guru, and is a highly benefic, dynamic and energetic practice.
Meditation and Pranayama
A class dedicated to the pure techniques of concentration, meditation and pranayama (breathing techniques). The purpose is to disconnect from the daily frenzy, and to reconnect with ourselves with what we really are, shutting off the mind and improving the breathing process, to make better choices in life.
"Yogas chitta vritti nirodha" or “Yoga quiets the whirlpools of the mind”. Through yoga, we can bring the mind to silence; only when the mind is calm, we can see what we really are. The aim is to reach the true Self, and thus self-realisation, going beyond identification with body and mind.
For the mind
Yoga teaches us not to identify ourselves with body or mind; however, the body is our temple, therefore the physical part of the practice is just as important as the others. The Asanas (positions) can become an extremely effective meditative tool.
